Virago
A downloadable roleplaying game
Current Status: Backburnered for now
Virago is a game about outcast heroes who fight to defend a society that fears and shuns them.
A Virago is a person who has manifested a connection to the elemental forces of the world -- a power which traditional society cannot control or understand.
The Viragos are civilization's only defense against Lusus Naturae -- corruptions of the same spiritual elements, twisted for malign and destructive purposes. Holding the same source of power as the Lusus Naturae makes the common Folk fear the Viragos even more; it's even rumored that should one of the Viragos fall to corruption, they would return as a Lusus Naturae.
A Virago doesn't ever fit into the role assigned to them by society, even though they are born to Folk parents. Some know who they are at a very young age, while others may live years or decades without embracing their true identities. But once a Virago takes that step outside of Folk society, there is no going back; the Folk can never truly understand what it means to embrace the elements as the Viragos do, and for that they are resented and shunned.
Having become unmoored from Folk society, most Viragos wander from town to town although some live in seclusion outside of the villages they continue to guard. Many Viragos band together into small groups of three to eight, for both practical and social reasons: while they are more effective against Lusus Naturae in numbers, they also share a common experience unknown to simple Folk.
Current Status: Incomplete
This is currently incomplete, but I submitted it to Apocalypse Engine Jam 2021 just because. I figure maybe someone will look at it, at least. :)
